A man who fell down a 40 metre bank on the Kapiti Coast has been rescued.

Fire fighters used ropes to reach the man, who fell down a bank in the Reikorangi Valley, inland from Waikanae about 2pm today, Fire Service spokesman Mike Wanoa said.

He was able to be carried out on a stretcher.

The area the man fell was about 500 metres further up the valley from an area known as Devil’s Elbow.

An ambulance spokeswoman said the 56-year-old man was taken to a local medical centre.

He had no major injuries.

Earlier reports that the man had an allergic reaction to a wasp sting turned out to be incorrect, she said.
