A woman who suffered life-threatening injuries in a train collision on the West Coast remains in a critical condition in hospital.

The 56-year-old woman was seriously injured on Thursday when her ute was flung 15 metres after colliding with a train.

She was the only person in the ute when the crash happened at an uncontrolled railway crossing, about 19 kilometres north of Reefton.

One of the woman's four daughters told The Press this morning that her mother remained in a critical condition in Christchurch Hospital this morning.

The daughter said reports that the family had decided to turn off the woman's life support this weekend were incorrect.
