The infant who died from injuries sustained in a fatal motor vehicle crash in Whakatane on Sunday has been named as Varnah Brass, of Kaitaia.

Four people, including the infant and a 4-year-old child, were travelling in a car which hit a truck in Thornton Rd, northwest of Whakatane.

The serious crash unit is investigating the cause of the crash.
