An elderly woman has died after being pulled from Lake Taupo this morning.
Taupo police sergeant Stuart Duncan said the woman was pulled from the lake by two passing runners who attempted to revive her.
''She had been in the water and one of the runners happened to be a paramedic. They spent some time attempting to revive her before ambulance staff arrived to assist but unfortunately they were unsuccessful,'' he said.
He said police were gathering facts about her background and whether she had any existing health conditions or concerns.
''At this stage we know it happened in the water but the exact cause of death can only be speculated.''
