A man is dead after a car, truck and motorcycle crashed in New Plymouth this morning.
A heavy truck had jackknifed at the intersection of Egmont Rd and Bishop Rd about 7:20am, Senior sergeant Robbie O'Keefe said.
The driver of the car died at the scene but the truck driver and motorcyclist suffered no injuries.
Sergeant George White of the New Plymouth Traffic Safety Group said it was too early to tell what had caused the crash but police were speaking with witnesses as part of their investigation.
"The scene has been cordoned off and the Serious Crash Unit will conduct a scene examination," he said.
The road is blocked and southbound traffic is being diverted to Katere Rd and northbound to Dorset Rd.
Diversions are likely to remain in place for the next few hours.
"I want to thank motorists for their patience as we work swiftly to clear the scene. Diversions are currently in place and we ask that people take alternative routes."
Police will not release any further details about the dead man until his family have been informed and formal identification completed.
