The search for a missing Mosgiel woman has been stepped up with a 30-strong police search and rescue team seeking help from the public.

Gae Denise Pantel, 67, was reported missing yesterday at lunchtime, although she was last seen two days ago, Sergeant Kevin Davidson of Mosgiel Police said.

Up to 30 police search and rescue team members from Oamaru through to Balclutha were now on the case, he said.

Residents of East Taieri  were being asked to check their properties, including outlying buildings.

Davidson said searches of the area close to the Riccarton Rd East address where Mrs Pantel had been staying with friends had been carried out last night.

Mrs Pantel is of slight of build and short in stature.

Davidson said she suffered from ill health and was believed to be confused in recent days.

"Her car, credit cards, and phone were all left at the address where she was staying.

"As time goes by clearly our concerns for Mrs Pantel's wellbeing are mounting and we are keen to hear from anyone who thinks they might have seen her in the past two days."

If anyone has seen Mrs Pantel since Tuesday night or has information that could help with the search is asked to contact the Southern Command centre on 471 5002.

The lower drink-driving limits from December are:

Great - too much carnage on our roads.

Overkill - targets moderate drinkers, not the heavies

Still too little - make it zero tolerance.

Sensible - punishment is in line with lesser breaches of limit.
