All the buzz is about whether the most famous royal picture in New Zealand history is about to be replicated.

Prince George is about the same age as his father, Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, was when he travelled to New Zealand with his parents, Charles and Diana, in 1983.

That trip produced the famous photo of the family with the iconic Kiwiana children's toy, the buzzy bee, on the lawn of Government House in Auckland.

Wendie Hall, co-founder and executive director of Lion Rock Ventures, which owns the brand Buzzy Bee & Friends, would like to continue the tradition and ensure Prince George gets his own buzzy bee.

"Any chance we get to give him one, we'd take it," Hall said.

"It would be wonderful to give him one, it's got a whole history and culture in New Zealand, and it's special for New Zealanders, it carries on through generations."

She said the company was contemplating a special edition for George, but given that it's such a classic toy, "the right thing would be to give George the same version his father got".

"The beauty of Prince William's one is that he was clearly enjoying playing with it, he was delighting in its colours and sounds, that's what it's about."

It would be difficult to find time amid the royals' hectic schedule to present George with the toy, but Hall hoped it could be done.
