Rush hour in central Auckland has been thrown into chaos after a fire shut a main road through the city.
Hobson St was closed by emergency services after a fire in a Chinese restaurant, the Mandarin Seafood Restaurant, and a 13 storey apartment above the restaurant was evacuated.
The fire has been put out.
One person was treated for smoke inhalation by St Johns Ambulance.
"There was a lot of smoke and at least five fire engines. It has been dealt with now," said one witness who worked in the area.
Guests at the nearby Heritage Hotel were also evacuated from the tower wing due to the fire. The hotel was unaffected.
Police were on the scene directing traffic.
