Irish celebrate early in Auckland
Pipers piped, drummers drummed and leprechauns leaped down Auckland's Queen St today.
St Patrick's Day came to Auckland early this year with a parade down the city's main street.
The official date for the holiday is March 17 - tomorrow - but this year it was held early.
It was a happy day for many Emerald Islers as their rugby team was also crowned Six Nations champions after beating France over night.
The rain held off and floats featuring Irish music, cheerleaders, dancers, Faerie Folke and the Rose of Tralee made their way through the city.
The parade was concluded by St Patrick himself - the 5th Century Christian missionary who legend has it, chased all the snakes from Ireland.
True to form, the parade participants gathered at O'Hagans Irish Pub in the Viaduct afterwards for a pint or two of Guinness.
