Firefighters have cut a trapped woman free after a crash between a car and a truck in Hawke’s Bay.

The accident happened on the Hawke's Bay Expressway at 10.14am, police said.

The car turned from Meeanee Quay into the wrong lane on the expressway, countable Wayne Stewart said.

It appears that the 60-year-old driver did not see the truck travelling north, he said.

The driver’s daughter was taken by ambulance to Hawke's Bay Hospital with moderate head injuries.

The drivers of both the car and the truck were unhurt.

The truck suffered minor damage while the car was written off, Stewart said.

The lower drink-driving limits from December are:

Great - too much carnage on our roads.

Overkill - targets moderate drinkers, not the heavies

Still too little - make it zero tolerance.

Sensible - punishment is in line with lesser breaches of limit.
