The Fire Service is investigating the cause of a blaze that ripped through a self-storage building in Wellington yesterday.
The fire, at Kiwi Self Storage near Wellington Airport, burned from about 1am yesterday morning and continued for almost 24 hours.
"The fire was extinguished shortly after midnight last night," Fire Service central communications shift manager Mike Wanoa said.
"Crews remained on the scene rotating through the evening to make sure everything was dampened down.
"Two fire investigators were this morning at the scene to determine the cause of the blaze, he said.
The upper floor of the storage unit was destroyed, while the ground floor appeared to have escaped with smoke and water damage.
Kiwi Self Storage confirmed yesterday the building had no sprinklers.
