Pedestrian killed by car named

Police have named the teenager fatally struck by a car in Rakaia, south of Christchurch, last night.

He was Danny Mathew Hendriks, 18, of Rakaia.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Acton Rd at around 11pm. He died at the scene.

It is understood the driver of the car was a woman in her 30s who was driving home with passengers after visiting a pub.

It is understood the woman called the police herself.

The accident happened on a country road which has no lights.

The Serious Crash Unit were investigating.
