A toddler has died after being run over in a driveway in South Auckland.
The toddler, the second driveway death in Auckland in two weeks, was struck by a reversing vehicle about 6.30pm yesterday.
Police said a family member took the child to hospital but he was unable to be revived.
"He was pronounced deceased at hospital just after 7.00pm."
Counties Manukau Police Inspector Neil Fisher said it was a tragic incident and "a tragic loss for the family".
"Police are in the process are interviewing family members and neighbours to determine exactly what happened. It's a distressing and deeply regrettable situation for everyone involved.
"It will take some time for us to form a clear picture of how this tragedy occurred and we aren't able to comment further on the investigation at this time.
Fisher said people should check the whereabouts of children at all times, particularly when driving.
"Always check around the back of your car before you reverse and ensure children are well out of the way or inside."
18-month-old Mila Tamihana died on March 28 after being run over on a driveway in West Auckland.
Her death is still under investigation.
A police spokeswoman said officers had identified the vehicle and the driver believed to be involved.
"The driver, who was known to the victim, is co-operating fully with the inquiry. The investigation is continuing and it is too soon to say whether charges will be laid."
