When owner of The Craic, Marty Fuller, heard a car had crashed through the front window of his pub, it was deja vu.

This is the third time in 10 years a car has driven into a Christchurch pub he has owned - first the Rose and Thistle, then Trevino's, and finally, The Craic.

A police spokesman said the vehicle, believed to be a Subaru Impreza, had lost control on the corner of Riccarton Rd and Straven Rd.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle left the scene heading towards the Christchurch suburb of Addington. Police were still trying to find the driver.

Fuller, a publican for 35 years, said the incident happened about 2am today.

The driver had smashed through the window of the bar and clipped a neighbouring shop, before reversing out of the pub and speeding away up Riccarton Rd.

"They say lightning never strikes twice," Fuller said. "But this is the third time for me."

Fuller said passersby had taken down the car's registration details before he fled the scene, and police were following up with the car's owner.

The pub was closed when the crash happened, and the last few patrons were just leaving. Fuller said it was lucky no-one was hurt.

The manager was still closing up when the car hit.

"It was pretty scary stuff," Fuller said.

Fuller said the damaged window would be boarded up and the pub would still open tonight.
