Searchers are looking for an overdue hunter in Te Urewera national park.
The man, aged 58 years, from Taranaki, was one of a group of seven hunters flown into the park, east of Galatea, on Monday.
The man was reported overdue by other members of the hunting party late on Thursday afternoon after failing to return to their camp the previous day.
A team of searchers walked in overnight to the location of the hunting camp, arriving at about 5am.
Further search teams have been flown into the area with the search beginning this morning.
There were a total of four ground teams along with three 4WD vehicles comprising 19 searchers, police said.
Weather in the area was very bad with limited visibility and rain, and it was expected to deteriorate.
