An American tourist Bob Kuhmann who had sparked a missing persons investigation after failing to arrive at booked accommodation on the West Coast has been found in Queenstown.
A search and rescue operation was being made this morning on the Heaphy Track in Golden Bay after he was reported missing.
Kuhmann was due to arrive for a booking at an accomodation provider in the West Coast town of Karamea on April 13 after completing his tramp but failed to arrive.
Police inquiries revealed that Kuhmann had not stayed at any of the huts towards the Karamea end of the track.
As searchers were checking huts, police discovered he was safe and well in Queenstown, having changed his intentions without informing others.
Police thanked the search and rescue volunteers who have worked on this investigation and also members of the public who provided information.
