Coldplay performed for 47,000 fans last night in Auckland, dedicating a song to the Pike River miners and victims of the Canterbury earthquakes.
Lead singer Chris Martin dedicated the band's hit Yellow was to "anyone from Pike River or Christchurch", a gesture that moved some fans to tears.
A Twitter user said, "when Chris Martin dedicated Yellow to all the Pike River miners and people from Christchurch, I burst into tears ...". Another added, "it was an awesome moment."
As the song played, the crowd became a choir bathed in that trademark golden light as Martin sang about the stars only just visible above the stadium lights.
In November 2010, U2 performed I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For and One Tree Hill while listing the names of the 29 deceased miners on the screens at a show at Mt Smart Stadium.
