A review of land zoning decisions in the Port Hills has been delayed again, with an announcement still weeks away.

The Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (Cera) has announced the review will not be completed by the end of February - the second time they have failed to meet their own deadline.

The review was announced by Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee last October to look into Port Hills zoning decisions.

It was supposed to be completed and residents told of the outcome by Christmas, but was postponed until February.

Cera chief executive Roger Sutton said completion of the review work was still ''some weeks away'', meaning it could not be delivered to Cabinet in time to meet the February deadline.

Sutton was ''disappointed'' that another delay was needed, but said officials had to ensure their decisions were correct.

''If we did a half-baked job, we'd all be unhappy about that too."

He had personally called some residents to let them know the review would not be completed on time, and said they were ''very understanding'' of the delay.

More than 130 people from 14 suburbs across the Port Hills applied to be part of the review.

Sutton said the review took into account not just their applications, but also properties next to some of the areas.

The owners of any properties affected by the review would be personally contacted before a public announcement was made, he said.
