A man was found with stab wounds and a serious head injury after a home invasion in Waikato this morning.

The man, 36, was discovered by a family member about midday at the Tuakau house.

He was taken to Middlemore hospital where he remained in intensive care.

Police have cordoned off the property as CIB investigate.

Acting Detective Sergeant Lee Warden of Counties Manukau Police said the investigation was still in its early stages.

"It is too soon to determine the motive for the attack and police will be conducting at thorough investigation," he said.

"We are interested in hearing from anyone who may have any information relating to the incident."
