Three people have been arrested after the armed robbery of a Mexican tourist in Hawke's Bay.

The tourist was held up at gunpoint and robbed after pulling off State Highway 2 at Raupunga, west of Wairoa, yesterday.

Three men, aged 17, 19 and 22, were arrested after a police search of two properties in Raupunga this morning.

They will appear in Gisbourne District Court tomorrow charged with aggravated robbery.

During the search, the police also found the vehicle used in the robbery and some of the tourist's belongings.

Sergeant Mike O'Brien said there were still some items missing.

"If anyone has any information about these items and knows where they might be, we would like to hear from them.  We're also keen to speak to anyone who has information about the robbery and those involved with it."

He thanked members of the public whose information led to the arrests.
