Police have formally identified Farhat Rana Malik, 55, and Sidra Noor Malik, 18, as the victims of a stabbing in West Auckland on Monday.

Ishrat Malik, 55, has been charged with the murder of the mother and daughter.

Farhat Malik and her daughter Sidra Malik were killed in the home on Pooks Rd, Ranui.

Ishrat Malik, who lived at the same address, appeared in Waitakere District Court on Tuesday.

He had called police to the house about 10am on Monday. He was taken with officers to help with inquiries into the double homicide investigation and later arrested.

Police weren't looking for anybody else in relation to the incident.
