Police are seeking two men who caught a cab from Wellington to Otaki then allegedly fled without paying the $257 fare.

Constable Callan Nikora said it was likely someone in Otaki would recognise the two men, who were caught on security video inside the taxi during the May 25 trip.

They are believed to be caucasian, aged about 18 to 20, and were wearing jeans and T-shirts, he said.

A Combined Taxis driver picked them up shortly before 3am from outside the Wellington Railway Station, a police report said.

''He asked asked them how they were going to pay, they replied that their mother was going to pay.

''During the travel he asked them again to confirm with their mother that she will pay,'' the report said.

When the driver stopped to drop the men off at a Tasman Rd house, both men ran away into a nearby park.

Nikora asked anyone who recognised the men to contact him on (06) 210-2245.
