Greymouth police are interviewing a man in relation to a vicious stabbing. 

A police spokeswoman said a 24-year-old man was stabbed in the abdomen about 3am Sunday behind the ASB on Mawhera Quay.

He is in a stable condition in Grey Base Hospital, and is yet to be interviewed.

Police have spoken to witnesses and are keen to speak to anyone else who was in the area at the time.
