A parent of one of the teenage girls at the centre of serious assault allegations in Dunedin has said she is disappointed with her and she would be facing "consequences".

The woman wanted to apologise to the three victims on behalf of her daughter, she said.

"I won't have this be what my family represents," the parent, who asked not to be identified, said to the Otago Daily Times.

Tae Flavell, Annalise Cooper, 19, and Makayla Spiers, 18, were attacked by a group of girls, believed to be aged 15 and 16, on Saturday night, then video footage of the incident was posted on the internet.

The three women were taken to Dunedin Hospital by ambulance, Flavell with a broken ankle.

A video of the attack filmed by a boy with the attackers was removed from YouTube yesterday, as contrary to the site's anti-bullying policy.

"I'm so disappointed in what happened with her and her friends," the parent said.

"You girls need to take a hard look at yourselves."

She also wanted to offer an apology to the women's families and tell them that her daughter would "be facing consequences for her actions".

Senior Sergeant Mark Crawford said details of the assault were being pieced together.

"We're looking at the possibility the group [of assailants] was connected to a previous incident," Crawford said.
