Three Dunedin women who were bashed and kicked in the street last Saturday night say they are now being bullied online.

The attack by a group of teenage girls on Tae Flavell, 19, Annalise Cooper, 19, and Makayla Spiers, 18, has been in the spotlight this week after video was posted on YouTube and Facebook.

Flavell told the Otago Daily Times that she and the other two victims had since been the subject of online attacks where they were being called liars and accused of provoking the attack.

Facebook threats connected to the assailants, which included links to the video, warned of similar actions awaiting others who talked about the assailants.

This week, the mother of one of the teenage girls connected with the serious assault apologised for her daughter's actions.

"I'm so disappointed in what happened with her and her friends," the parent said.

"You girls need to take a hard look at yourselves."

She also wanted to offer an apology to the women's families and tell them that her daughter would "be facing consequences for her actions".

Dunedin Senior Sergeant Mark Crawford said details of the assault were being pieced together.

"We're looking at the possibility the group [of assailants] was connected to a previous incident," Crawford said.
