A man running from police investigating a domestic incident in Dunedin last night was hit by a car, police say.

The 20-year-old Dunedin man was hit by a car in the suburb of Caversham, Senior Sergeant Brian Benn told The Otago Daily Times.

Police were attending a domestic incident at a Caversham house about 9pm. A police officer was speaking with a woman inside the house and another was talking to the man outside. The man ran off and was hit by a passing car.

Benn said the man refused treatment from ambulance staff but was taken to Dunedin Hospital. When his hospital treatment was completed he would be taken to the police station and charged.

No further information on his condition was available this morning.
