Police have arrested and charged an 18-year-old man in relation to an alleged sex attack in a woman's Porirua home.

A Titahi Bay woman reported to police that a stranger had knocked on her door early last Saturday morning, and claims he then forced entry into her home and sexually assaulted her.

Porirua police have confirmed a man was arrested this afternoon and charged in relation to the alleged attack. He appeared Porirua District Court to face charges including unlawful sexual connection and burglary.

Wellington police spokesman Nick Bohm said the man has been remanded in police custody overnight and he is due to reappear soon for a bail hearing. Police planned to oppose bail, he added.
