A 59-year-old man has been charged over a car crash earlier this year that killed a woman and left several others injured.

The crash happened on the evening of April 17, on State Highway 16 in Kumeu, Auckland.

Alofaifo Afaese, 40, died in the crash and four other people were injured.

Waitemata police said in a statement today the man had been charged with one count of dangerous driving causing death, and four counts of dangerous driving causing injury.

He will appear in Waitakere District Court on August 28.
