A man has appeared in the Manukau District Court charged with the murder of a five-month-old girl.

All details other than those already released by police were suppressed by a Justice of the Peace and the man was remanded, in custody, to the High Court in Auckland on Wednesday.

No pleas are taken at the first appearance.

Earlier police said the baby died on Thursday in Pukekohe.

A post mortem examination yesterday revealed she suffered a fractured skull and broken leg.

The arrested man was known to the baby, police said earlier.
