The High Court in Christchurch has issued an arrest warrant for Dean Cottle, a potential witness in the Bain trial.

Michael Reed QC, defence counsel for David Bain, today told the court his case was finished subject to the arrest of Dean Cottle.

He said Cottle had not been found at his work or home and the defence was reliant on the police arresting him.

Reed said if Cottle was not found he wanted parts of his affidavit read to the court.

The court has already heard allegations that Cottle was Laniet Bain's pimp and was blackmailing Laniet with threats of telling her parents she was working as a prostitute.

A witness alleged Cottle was forcing Laniet to do horrible things.

The trial of David Bain, 37, on charges he murdered his family on 20 June, 1994, will continue tomorrow at 9.15am with the cross-examination of defence fingerprint witness Carl Lloyd who had to return to Britain before the Crown was ready to cross-examine him.
