A Christchurch taxi driver was threatened with a knife and nearly robbed by a passenger yesterday.

The attempted robbery took place in the Linwood area at about 9.20pm, Christchurch police Senior Sergeant Tony Ellis said.

The male passenger threatened the man with a knife and demanded money from the taxi driver, Mr Ellis said.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Christchurch Hospital.

A 19-year-old man was assisting police with their inquiries, Mr Ellis said.
