Lee Richard Oswald Bell, 41, fled from the High Court in Auckland in February after being denied bail on numerous drugs and firearm charges.
Bell was believed to have been sitting in the public gallery when he heard the judge's decision.
On Thursday police, who were acting on a tip, followed Bell to a house in Pakuranga, where he was arrested, The Weekend Herald reported.
In court yesterday, Bell told Justice Lyn Stevens he would not be seeking bail.
He was remanded in custody until August 12.
