Woman hospitalised after Ponsonby hit and run
BY DAVID GADD
A man has been arrested by police investigating an assault on an Auckland sex worker and a hit-and-run on another woman.
Police this morning appealed for witnesses after a 43 year-old sex worker was seriously assaulted and, shortly afterwards, a 36 year-old woman was involved in a hit-and-run incident on Ponsonby Rd about 4.30am.
Police had located a Ford Laser car which was found abandoned in Sarsfield St in Herne Bay later this morning.
They have now said they have arrested a 22 year-old North Shore service station forecourt attendant.
He will appear in the Auckland District Court on Tuesday, November 24, where he will be charged with reckless driving causing injury and failing to ascertain injury after a crash.
Inquiries into both incidents are continuing by both CIB staff and the Auckland City Police Serious Crash Unit.
Police want to hear from any witnesses to either the assault or the crash which happened on Ponsonby Rd near Western Park - callers can contact Detective Sergeant Jason McIntosh on 09 820 5781.
