Thieves take Chiefs bus on 400km road trip
Hamilton police are hunting thieves who stole a bus and took it on a 400km jaunt.
Senior Sergeant Jeff Penno said the bus, which had since been recovered, was taken sometime overnight.
The bus, sporting distinctive red, yellow and black colours and a picture of the 2009 Chiefs team on the rear had travelled 400km before it was recovered in suburban Chartwell.
Mr Penno said police were now working to establish just where the bus was taken by the thieves who left few clues to their identity. "We know it's been in the rural area on Gordonton Rd but other than that it could have been anywhere," said Mr Penno.
"The bus suffered minor damage and the only clues left behind were several packets of twisties in and around where the bus was found."
