Police raids net big stash of stolen goods
A massive haul of stolen property taken in almost a decade's worth of burglaries across the Waikato has been recovered.
The stolen goods, recovered in a series of raids over recent weeks, have so far been linked to 11 burglaries, with police believing the items had been traded extensively throughout the Waikato criminal fraternity in exchange for drugs.
Two Hamilton brothers, 32 and 37, will appear in Hamilton District Court on December 14 facing a total of 14 charges of receiving stolen goods following raids on a Frankton storage unit and properties in Te Pahu.
"A large amount of tools and equipment taken from building sites in burglaries between 2000 and 2009 was recovered as well as generators, trail and quad bikes and a racing go-kart stolen from a business on Kahikatea Dr (Hamilton)," Senior Constable Jake Van Selm, of the Hamilton police, said.
Police were working through the hoard of stolen goods to establish who their owners were, he said.
Other stolen items included household goods and a child's 50cc motorbike.
The arrests come just days after the discovery of an illegal car stripping operation at a Hamilton East home.
Sergeant Dale Smith said three stolen cars were recovered from a Watts Cres house.
Parts and number plates of several other cars were found stashed inside and under the home.
Three men were arrested and inquiries were continuing, Mr Smith said.
