A 22 year-old man appeared in Whakatane District Court today, in relation to the fatal stabbing of a man in the eastern Bay of Plenty last night.

The accused, who was granted name suppression, entered no plea to murdering a 45-year-old man following a domestic incident in the Matahi Valley, near Taneatua, 13km south of Whakatane.

He was remanded in custody, until his reappearance in January.

A team of 20 officers, including forensic scientists, were now concentrating their investigation on the crime scene, Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Standen of Whakatane CIB said.
