A small amount of damage was caused when a fire was lit in the girls' toilet block at Hornby Primary School swimming pool today.

Acting Detective Sergeant Michael Freeman, of Christchurch South police, said police wanted to hear from anyone who had information about the fire which happened about 4.10pm.

"This fire was deliberately lit and young children or teenagers are likely to be responsible for this fire," Mr Freeman said.

"They will come from the local area and may tell others of their exploits."
