'National figure' in court on indecency charge
A former national figure has appeared in court in Nelson on a charge of indecently assaulting a 13-year-old girl.
The man, who has interim name suppression to protect the identity of the girl, was remanded on bail without plea during a brief court appearance in the Nelson District Court yesterday.
He is due back in court on February 2.
Conditions of his bail include that he not contact the girl or a witness.
Court documents show it is alleged the man touched the girl's breasts and genitals on December 30.
