Police are hoping to interview today a woman who was brutally attacked in her home on Auckland's North Shore early on Thursday.

They had hoped to speak to her yesterday but Detective Sergeant Kim Libby said she had an operation on her jaw, smashed in the assault by masked men who broke into her Glenfield house.

The three or four offenders broke into house about 2am and attacked the 45-year-old woman in her bedroom with a blunt instrument.

Her jaw and shoulder were broken and several teeth knocked out, Mr Libby said.

"Luckily she did not receive any brain injuries," he said.

Three other people, two women and a man, who lived at the property were bundled into another room as the offenders escaped with a laptop and cellphones.

Police were still not sure of a motive, but did not believe it was a random attack.

One of the offenders used the nickname of one of the house occupants.

Mr Libby said the house was known to them, but not for major crime.
