Police are seeking information on a man and a woman wanted in relation to a PIN number scam in Wellington.
Security camera images of the pair were released today, following complaints from three Wellington retailers. Police allege the pair started taking belongings and money from central city shops on Saturday.
Police said one of the pair would distract shop staff while the other stole cash, wallets and other valuable from backroom offices. The man and women were "quite convincing" and shop workers should beware.
After the pair left each shop, someone would ring the store posing as a bank representative and asking for a bank card PIN to refund money that had been overcharged. They would offer the options of visiting the bank in person or providing the PIN over the phone.
Police advised people to never give their bank card PIN out over the phone, no matter how persuasive the caller sounded.
Police asked anyone with information to call the Wellington burglary squad on 04 381 2000.
