Teenage party-goers hurled beer bottles and cans at police, assaulted a constable and smashed a patrol car window.

About 50 drunken young people caused "major disorder" as they left a party in Kiwi Rd, Raumati, about 11pm on Monday, Senior Sergeant Alasdair Macmillan said.

A teenage girl threw a full bottle of beer through the rear window of a patrol car, smashing the glass and dousing the car with beer while an officer was inside the house.

"There were no arrests because of the numbers," Mr Macmillan said. The crowd eventually dispersed.

And early on Saturday morning, about 50 party-goers trashed a house in He Awa Cres, Waikanae, and a constable was assaulted.

A full beer can was thrown at an officer, hitting him in the chest. He ducked when a full beer bottle was thrown at him and it hit another officer, cutting his chin.

Eight partygoers, mostly in their late teens, face charges including breach of the peace, disorderly behaviour and intentional damage.

A 19-year-old woman was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, resisting arrest and injuring with intent.

Mr Macmillan blamed alcohol for the party-goers' behaviour. "Assaulting a police officer when he is just doing his lawful duty to protect the public is totally unacceptable. It was a vicious attack, he was very lucky not to be more seriously injured."
