A Blenheim man suffered a double bad luck overnight when he was arrested on drugs and stolen property charges by police who had come to help with a fire at his house.

The 39-year-old solo father was charged with cultivating and possessing cannabis, possession of methamphetamine and drug utensils, and receiving stolen property, police spokeswoman Michelle Stagg said.

The arrest came just after 1am when police were called to the man's Taylor Crescent address because of a house fire.

Police spotted three cannabis plants growing in the backyard, Ms Stagg said.

They also found a quantity of dried cannabis material, a quantity of methamphetamine, various cannabis and methamphetamine utensils and stolen property.
