Hastings police are searching for a man who robbed a Havelock North video store armed with what appeared to be a spanner.

The man walked into Video Easy at about 9.40pm last night, Detective Wayne Steed said.

With his face disguised, he jumped over the counter, threatened staff and demanded cash. The store manager complied and the man ran from the store.

The offender he ran down Donnelly St, got into a parked vehicle, and drove off with no headlights on.

"There were people on Donnelly Street at the time so someone has seen this male. They will have important information that will help solve this crime and get a dangerous criminal off the street," Mr Steed said.

He described the offender as dark skinned of medium height. He was wearing a black puffer jacket with a hood and fawn full-length pants with two black stripes down each leg.
