Customs officers have seized 4kg of crystal methamphetamine or ICE, with a street value of around $4 million, at Auckland Airport.

Two Chinese men arriving on a flight from Hong Kong were arrested by police on Sunday.

Customs manager drug investigations Mark Day says that the seizure was particularly significant and was a good example of the sustained effort that Customs was making in disrupting the supply of illicit drugs into New Zealand.

"Most of our recent seizures have been of precursors but this is the finished drug product ready for sale or use.

"This is a great result and shows the value of constant vigilance at the border," Mr Day said.

Both men appeared in Manukau District Court this week charged with importation of a class A controlled drug, possession for supply of a class A controlled drug, and possession of methamphetamine.

Methamphetamine is a class A controlled drug with the penalties for importing it including life imprisonment.

Both men entered no plea and were remanded in custody by consent.
