An autopsy is being conducted today on the skeletal remains found by police investigating the 2008 disappearance of Harold Skudder.

The remains were found in a ravine in Moonshine Hill Rd, Upper Hutt, on Friday.

Last Thursday, a 26-year-old man appeared in Lower Hutt District Court accused of Mr Skudder's murder and was remanded in custody until later this week.

Mr Skudder, 38, was reported missing by his mother in early 2008, a year after his disappearance.

The arrest followed information via an 0800 tip-off line.

Detective Inspector Shane Cotter said said today identification of Mr Skudder from Taita, Lower Hutt would be done through dental records or DNA, and take about a week to complete.

Scene examinations at the site and a Lower Hutt address were done over the weekend and the investigation was making progress.

Police have said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with Mr Skudder's disappearance, but were trying to build up a picture of what happened to him.
