A woman who killed a highly-respected Invercargill social worker in a drink-drive crash has been jailed for two years and four months.

Pearl Janine Wiki Te Amo, 25, pleaded guilty in July to drink-driving, causing the death of 39-year-old Michelle Grace but denied a second charge of failing to stop after the accident.

Today in Invercargill District Court Te Amo was sentenced on the charge of excess breath alcohol causing death. She was also sentenced to six months for failing to stop, with both sentences running concurrently, NewstalkZB reported.

Ms Grace died on May 15 last year after her car collided with Te Amo's Nissan Terrano, which had gone through a red light.
