An early morning smash-and-grab raid has left a boating store in Paraparaumu short of about $10,000 worth of high quality fishing reels.
The burglary happened at about 1.30am this morning in what police described as a highly targeted attack.
Senior sergeant Alasdair Macmillan, of Kapiti Police, said a glass ranch slider in a secluded part of the store was smashed to gain access.
A cabinet at the other end of the store was then broken into to reach the reels.
In total 23 reels were taken, with top priced Shimano and Daiwa brands targeted, he said.
Mr Macmillan said an alarm was activated but the raid was over within minutes.
''They have walked very quickly through to the other end of the building. Then they have smashed a secure glass display cabinet containing these fishing reels and got out of there quick smart.''
Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the store.
