Police investigating the fatal shooting of Manawatu farmer Scott Guy are looking to see if any shotgun thefts in the past 18 months could be linked to the case.

Fliers containing information on the case were handed out by police at the Feilding stockyards yesterday.

Detective Inspector Sue Schwalger, who is heading the investigation, said it was the latest attempt to find the shotgun used to kill Mr Guy, 31, in the driveway of his Aorangi Rd home on July 8.

"We know that firearms used to commit crime are often obtained illegally so it is only natural for us to canvass recent thefts in the area," she said.

"Not all thefts are reported, so speaking direct with the farming community may provide police with vital information regarding the weapon."

Mr Guy was found dead just after 7am on July 8. An autopsy confirmed he died from several gunshot wounds.

Ms Schwalger said the investigation was still running fulltime and had not been scaled back at all.

Staff numbers were still at 37 officers plus five administrative staff – 21 staff from within Central district and the other 16 from elsewhere in the country.

Police were still receiving a "steady stream of calls from the public" regarding the case, she said.

Anyone with information can contact the investigation directly on 0800 808585 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
