An 18-year-old has been clocked by police driving at 177kmh while drunk, on his restricted licence and with six passengers in his car.
Waitemata police spokesman Kevin Loughlin said at 10.40pm last Saturday the teenager was caught by police doing 177kmh in a Nissan Sylvia car as it travelled southbound on Auckland's Northern motorway near Tristram Avenue.
The car was eventually stopped at the Shelly Beach Rd off-ramp.
A breath-test revealed the driver was over three times the legal blood alcohol limit.
The teenager had since elected to have a blood test to determine if there will be a future court appearance, Mr Loughlin said.
"This is an example of a young male driver who has no respect for the law," Mr Loughlin said.
"This individual has put the lives of his passengers and other road users at great risk as a result of his attitude to dangerous driving, speeding, excessive drink driving, restricted licences, and passenger overloading."
