A man denied bail who allegedly jumped the dock at the Auckland District Court and made a bid for freedom yesterday will face further charges when he reappears in court later this month.

Konin Leigh, 23, will face two new charges - escaping lawful custody and resisting arrest. He remains in custody and will be back in court on September 22.

Leigh's lawyer John Kovacevich said he had to seek leave to withdraw from representing Leigh, as he was a potential witness to his escape yesterday.

John Corby will be taking over as his counsel.

Leigh was in court yesterday for a bail application hearing, which Judge Greg Davies turned down.

Judge Davies was about to set a remand date when Leigh allegedly jumped over the 1.5m dock and ran from the courtroom.

He allegedly sprinted down the court's main escalator and past security guards but was caught in Wyndham Street, just behind the court.
